Founded in 2004, Beyond Empathy (BE) is an Australian community, arts and cultural development organisation that creates art projects with people living on the margins of their communities to tell their stories and engage with new futures. Its core business is to assist people living with hardship and from backgrounds of disadvantage to build new futures through the creation of dynamic artistic projects.

Empathy is the first step towards creating change in ourselves and others; it acts as a catalyst to signal that change is needed, doing so with a warm heart. Going beyond empathy is a commitment to building skills and capacity for individuals to be in charge of their own change process. It's a translation from feeling into action.

Art resonates, connects, creates the realisation 'Ah, they are somehow like me'. When lives blurred in the margins move on to centre stage their presence demands - How do we respond? How do we now become more real?

BE uses the arts to influence change in the lives of individuals and communities experiencing recurring hardship by engaging multi-art forms (film, digital media, music, dance, theatre, public art installation, and small and large scale visual arts) to influence positive social change in marginalised individuals and communities of regional Australia.
