In 1976, the Melbourne chapter of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd established Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service, an Incorporated Association, making it a separate legal entity from the Sisters.

Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service is a community services organisation that helps people battle poverty and disadvantage, with a particular emphasis on advocacy and empowerment support for women and girls.

Amongst other services, Good Shepherd Youth and Family Services offers mentoring programs for young people and operates a School Focused Youth Service (SFYS) in the Melton area in conjunction with Djerriwarrh Employment and Education Services.
